One of the most cherished aspects of the fall season for me is the start of football season (in fact, I have a whole Pinterest board dedicated to it). Raised in Texas, where football truly is a religion, all three of my brothers followed my Dad’s collegiate steps and played while growing up. ESPN was the seventh family member of our household. Since I was in the 3rd grade, I rarely missed the local high school’s weekly game and my parents still attend them as empty-nesters. Football is “home” to me. Luckily, my husband is just as engrossed with the sport, so we spend plenty of Monday nights relaxed on our couch, watching the different teams play, and are perfectly content calling it a date night in.
Part of what I love about sports is how they can be a casual gathering point. Slide some ‘lil smokies onto skewers for easy grab-n-go servings, fry up parmesan crusted tortellini bites, roll out soft pretzels and bake cheesy ham sliders for simple appetizers that are both filling and delicious. All of these can be easily made in an evening before kick-off to host a simple football viewing party. Gather your favorite drinks, invite a few friends or neighbors over and savor this heavenly season of football!
