Just before “wedding season” arrives in June, bridal showers are often hosted in spring, when the florals begin to awaken. As all parties need a favor–a momento or gift for guests who attend–these vintage bridal shower favors filled with a homemade body scrub give your attendees a unique gift of delicious scent and self-pampering, packaged in nostalgic and classic romance.
I love giving homemade body scrubs as favors (they’re my go-to for baby showers as well) since I don’t need to consider food allergies, they’re inexpensive, customizable and very easy to make in bulk for a large guest list. Also, as I’m likely already serving sweets at the shower, I prefer to give a take-home that isn’t edible to offer variety. The wonderful thing about homemade body scrubs is the endless list of ingredients and combinations that you can use. Below, I’m sharing a generic recipe to use as a base that you can adapt and customize to your preference.
Brown Sugar Body Scrub
2 cups brown sugar
1/2 cup olive oil
1/4 cup honey
1 tsp vanilla
Simply mix all the ingredients together in a bowl. The brown sugar acts as an exfoliant, while the honey and oil serve as moisturizers to replenish the dead skin. In this batch, I’ve added the juice and zest of one lime simply because I love a citrus scent paired with honey. Adding an acidic juice provides additional health benefits as well.
I like to pour the scrub into these ideal glass jars since they are the perfect individual size and come in bulk packages. Either tie a wooden spoon to the jar using ribbon/fabric/lace/tulle/twine/string/etc. or you can tape it with decorative washi tape. To make these unique and vintage bridal shower favors, print nostalgic photos of past brides (or even relatives) and weddings onto circular labels and stick them to the tops of the lids. These are quick, inexpensive and easy party favors to make with a nod to classic romance and sophistication.
