A dark outdoor Halloween dinner party can offer an effortless ambiance and eerie mood to entertain adult guests with this season. Although I’m generally not a big fan of red roses, these deep shaded beauties had a hauntingly lovely feel and reminded me of The Phantom of the Opera (my favorite stage musical that I’ve seen live three times and also is my favorite sheet music to play on the piano). Mixed with some pomegranates picked from my backyard tree, they gave a deep allure and richness to the black table ensemble.
For this dark outdoor Halloween dinner party, I chose a simple place setting of silver scalloped chargers (under $5 and available here), white dinner plates, black salad plates and mismatched silver flatware to allow the vibrant florals and fruit to pop against the classic combination. Handwritten and ripped place cards offer character and personality to the setting.
I always love to add texture into a tablescape, wherever I can--black tulle draped around the charger plates offer an airy but also spiderweb-like feel, curved pumpkins, torn cardstock, soft rose petals, juicy pomegranates--all contribute to the depth and mood of such a simple place setting. Using varied heights, objects, textures, prints, and fabrics can add dimension to your tablescape and create a lovely illusion for your guests to savor.
